Meta Pixel & CAPI checker

See if a Shopify store has the Meta Pixel and how it was added, what else tracks its shoppers, and how to confirm the Conversions API (CAPI). Free, no sign-up.

Your own domain or the .myshopify.com address. We only read the store's public home page.

What we check

What this checker looks at

One visit to the store's public home page, the same page any shopper gets. We read its code; we don't sign in, add to cart or buy anything.

  • Shopify

Whether the store runs on Shopify, and its .myshopify.com address.
  • Meta Pixel

Each Pixel ID, and whether the Facebook & Instagram app or the theme code added it. It flags a Pixel added twice, which can count events twice.
  • Conversions API (CAPI)

Apps that can send events from the server, such as PixlBridge, Elevar or Littledata. The events themselves can't be seen from outside.
  • Other trackers

Google Analytics 4, Google Ads, Google Tag Manager, TikTok, Pinterest, Snapchat, Microsoft Advertising, Clarity, Klaviyo and more, with their IDs.
  • Custom pixels

Pixels added in Shopify's Customer events settings, by name, including ones named like Meta's.
  • Cookie banner

Shopify's own banner, or one from OneTrust, Cookiebot, Pandectes, Consentmo and others. We check from Europe (our server is in Germany).

Conversions API (CAPI)

Why the Conversions API can't be seen from outside

The Meta Pixel runs in the shopper's browser. Its code is part of the store's pages, so anyone can find it there, this checker included.

The Conversions API (CAPI) works server to server: the store's server, or an app such as PixlBridge, sends each event straight to Meta. Nothing about it appears in the page, so no outside check can confirm it.

We can spot apps known to send server events. Whether the events really arrive, only Meta Events Manager can tell you.

How to check it in Meta Events Manager

  1. Open Meta Events Manager and select your Pixel under Data sources (Meta also calls it a dataset).
  2. On the Overview tab, open an event such as Purchase or AddToCart.
  3. See how it arrives: “Conversions API” or “Server” means server events reach Meta. Only “Meta Pixel” or “Browser” means the browser alone sends it.
Open Meta Events Manager(opens in a new tab)
  • Shopper's browser
    Meta Pixel
    Meta

In the page's code: an outside check can see it.

  • Store's server or app
    Conversions API (CAPI)
    Meta

Server to server: never in the page.

The checker reads the store's page, like a shopper's browser does. Only Meta Events Manager shows what arrives from the server.

Questions, answered

What is the Meta Pixel?

The Meta Pixel is code from Meta (Facebook) that runs in your shoppers' browsers. It reports what they do on your store, such as PageView, AddToCart and Purchase, so Meta can measure your ads and show them to people likely to buy. On Shopify it's usually added by the Facebook & Instagram app, and sometimes pasted into the theme code.

What is the Conversions API (CAPI)?

The Conversions API (CAPI) sends the same events from a server straight to Meta, instead of from the shopper's browser. Ad blockers, browser privacy settings and closed tabs can stop the Pixel; they can't stop a server. When both send an event with the same event_id, Meta keeps one copy. Meta Pixel vs Conversions API

Do I need both?

Yes. Meta recommends running the Pixel and the Conversions API together: the Pixel reports browsing as it happens, and the Conversions API fills in the events browsers lose. With a shared event_id, nothing counts twice.

Why does my Pixel show as “likely”?

We found Meta's Pixel script (fbevents.js), or a Shopify custom pixel named like Meta or Facebook, but no Pixel ID in the page. That's normal when another script, such as Google Tag Manager, loads the Pixel, or when it's set up as a custom pixel, which runs in a sandbox. Meta Events Manager shows which Pixel receives your events.

Is it safe? What do you store?

The checker opens your store's public home page once, like any visitor, and reads its code. It doesn't sign in, add to cart or change anything. We keep the address you checked and the result for 90 days, and a one-way hash of your IP address to stop abuse. If you ask for the report by email, we also keep your email address, and your news choice until you unsubscribe. Privacy policy

Does it work for stores not on Shopify?

Partly. The Meta Pixel, tracker and cookie banner checks read the page's code, so they work on most websites. The Shopify parts (the .myshopify.com address, pixels added by Shopify apps, and custom pixels) only work on Shopify stores. PixlBridge itself is made for Shopify.

Add the Conversions API to your Shopify store

PixlBridge adds a web pixel and sends your store's events to Meta from our server, with no code. It also shows the ROAS of every Meta ad, and makes image and video ads from your product photos with AI (5 AI ad images in the free trial).
