What to look for in a competitor's ads

Meta doesn't show other brands' sales or ROAS. These signs tell you which ads are worth a closer look.

  • Started running on

Each ad shows the day it started. Ads that have run for weeks or months usually pay for themselves; brands switch off the ones that don't.
  • Several versions

“This ad has multiple versions” means the brand is testing hooks, images or text on the same idea, and spending enough to test it.
  • The first 3 seconds

Filter to Videos and watch the opening: the hook decides whether people stop scrolling. Note the words, the face and the movement.
  • Where it runs

Platform icons show Facebook, Instagram, Messenger or the Audience Network, so you see where the brand puts its money.
  • Save the link

Open See ad details, then the three-dot menu, and copy the ad's link or Library ID, so you can come back to it later.
  • EU ads show more

Ads shown in the European Union also show reach and the age, gender and location of the people reached. Choose an EU country to see them.

Downloads

Can you download the ads you find?

No. The Meta Ad Library is built for transparency, so it lets anyone see ads but has no download button. The videos and images belong to the advertisers, and reusing them in your own ads can break copyright and get your ads rejected.

Your own ad videos are different: you can download them from Meta, or reuse them from your Meta Media Library. How to download a video from the Meta Ad Library shows how, step by step.

Questions, answered

What is the Meta Ad Library?

The Meta Ad Library is Meta's public list of ads running on Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and the Audience Network. Anyone can search it, with or without an account, to see which ads a brand is running, where and since when.

Is this tool free? Do I need an account?

It's free and needs no account. It builds the right link to Meta's own Ad Library with your filters, then Meta's page shows the ads. Your search goes from your browser to Meta; nothing is sent to PixlBridge.

Can I download the ads I find?

The Ad Library has no download button, and the videos and images belong to the advertisers. Save the ad's link instead (three-dot menu, then copy the link), and note what makes it work. Your own ad videos you can download from Meta. How to download a video from the Meta Ad Library

Does the Ad Library show how much a brand spends?

Only for ads about social issues, elections or politics, which show spend and reach ranges. For other ads, Meta shows when each ad started running, its versions and where it runs. Ads shown in the European Union also show reach and audience details.

How do I tell which competitor ads are working?

Meta doesn't show other brands' results. Two good signs: an ad that has been running for weeks or months (brands stop ads that don't pay), and an ad with several versions (the brand is testing and spending on it).

Why does a brand show no ads?

Try All ads instead of Active ads, All countries, or Any of the words. A brand may not be advertising right now, may advertise under another Page name, or may not run ads in the country you chose.

Make your own ads, and see which ones sell

PixlBridge's AI Ad Creator turns your product photos into image and video ads (5 AI ad images in the free trial). Then PixlBridge sends your Shopify sales to Meta through the Conversions API (CAPI) and shows the ROAS of every ad, so you know which ones really sell.
